Striving For Sustainability
We know the importance of having an awareness of how our business practices can impact the environment. That’s why as an independent family run business, we want to do what we can to cut down on our environmental impact. So, we thought we’d share a quick overview of some of the steps we take help to protect our wonderful planet.
Reuse and Recycle
Our deliveries can come with a lot of packaging. To prevent lots of this going to waste, we try and reuse as much as we can. Where the packaging cannot be reused, we recycle as much as we can. This also includes recycling all of our paper work, plastic, tins, cardboard and electronics.
We like to support local charities, so if used furniture is usable and in full working order, we donate it to Ross Hospices. Not only does this allow us to support the local community, but it also stops furniture in good condition from going to waste or being recycled prematurely.
We use low energy light bulbs in the stores and we make a conscious effort to prevent energy from being wasted by electronic devices. This includes ensuring that all devices are turned off at the mains at the end of each day and putting computers and laptops into sleep mode when not in use.
Purchase for the Long Term
Unfortunately, because mattresses are made up of a varied combination of many different materials, they are very difficult to recycle. Therefore, in an effort to reduce waste, we recommend to customers that they purchase the best mattress that they can afford so that the item lasts for longer and is more economical long term.
Thankfully, mattress recycling is an issue that the industry is taking seriously and the National Bed Federation recently commissioned a survey on mattress recycling. It is hoped that the results of this research will lead to developments in mattress recycling and we’re keen to see the results.
