Staff Spotlight: Leigh

How long have you worked for Saymor?

7 years

What is your role?

I’m a sales person and delivery driver. I started off in the vans and eventually moved into sales, it’s really nice to do both sides of the business.

How did you first discover the company?

Someone that used to work here lives on the same road as me and he asked if I was looking for a job. I said yes and next thing you know I’m here! It was just a case of being in the right place at the right time.

What is your favourite product?

I don’t think I really have a favourite product, I like everything. All of it is top quality. Our Ross store tends to vary - one week we will sell a lot of furniture, the next week it will be chairs, and the week after it’s beds. I like the variation that we have.

Do you live locally? If so, where?

I’ve lived in Ross for 8 years at the top of Ledbury Road. I was born in Ross and lived here for a while before moving to Gloucester. I then moved back to the house I’m at now. I think it’s a really nice place to live as it’s quiet but the people are really nice, plus it’s a great place to raise kids.

What is your favourite memory of working at Saymor?

It’s a funny one. Haydn and I were doing deliveries in Stroud and we had to climb up a ladder with a bed to get it in through a window. That memory definitely stands out.

What is your favourite part of the job?

It would have to be customer satisfaction. I really enjoyed dealing with the customers and making sure that they are happy. It’s really nice when they leave the store with what they wanted and a smile on their face - it shows that you’re doing what you’re trained to do. Another thing that’s really nice is when you’re helping a customer in the store and then you delivery their product to them too. That’s the good thing about working for a family run business - you see the whole process.

What would you say is the biggest challenge about working in the stores?

I’d say everyday is a challenge. You’re always setting yourself challenges and trying to beat targets. If there wasn’t challenges like that, you would just get bored. It’s good to always be developing and learning things.

What is your biggest tip for someone who is looking for a new mattress?

Not to go for the first thing that comes to mind. Some people come in here with a set idea of what they want, which is great, but it might not be what’s best for them personally. Every customer is different and has different needs. So, I think just keep an open mind and we can help them find a mattress that is best for them. Another thing is make sure you take your time. It’s like buying a car - make sure that the mattress is perfect for you before investing.

What do you think are going to be the hottest sleep products this year?

Me personally, I really like the Shakespeare natural collection. It’s really good quality and doesn’t cost a fortune. I think that’s another good thing about being in a family run business. We look after our customers and make sure they’re getting the best products for the best price, which is something you might not find in a bigger business.
