Happy World Sleep Day!
Today marks World Sleep Day, an event that was created by the World Sleep Society to raise awareness of the importance of sleep health all over the world.
A study conducted by the Royal Society of Public Health found that Brits are under sleeping by around an hour every night. That’s equivalent to one entire night of sleep every week. Ouch! What’s more, health problems associated with a lack of sleep include high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity and other chronic illnesses. So, why is the importance of sleep so often overlooked?
RSPH chief executive Shirley Cramer told the Guardian: “It is clear that the public regard sleep as just as important as maintaining a balanced diet or an active lifestyle for maintaining good health and wellbeing, and we need to do more to promote its importance.”
That’s where World Sleep Day comes in. Today is all about emphasising how sleep directly impacts overall health and well-being, a message that we are passionate about spreading here at Saymor.
Buying a new, good quality mattress can be a great step towards sleeping better at night and we’re really lucky to have a great team who can help you choose a specific mattress that is perfect for you.
We want to do our bit to help local people improve their sleep health, so feel free to pop into one of our stores to find out how our mattresses can help you get a better nights sleep this World Sleep Day!
