DIY SOS Comes to Gloucestershire

DIY SOS has come to Avening, near Stroud! Nick Knowles and his team transform homes across Britain and this week, they are working with a family in the local area.

The build will take place in the home of Ben Wernham, who was left paralysed from the neck down following a swimming pool accident when on holiday with his family. His house needs adapting so that he can move home from hospital and live safely with his partner, daughter and step daughter.

There is a fundraising page that has been set up for Ben, which states: β€˜Ben is a young and strong man who has a real determination to get home to Ella and the girls. To achieve this, there is an extremely long road ahead so that the family can be together again. We need to raise as much money as we possibly can to create access to and extend the entire house. Ben will require specialist care, so there also needs to be plenty of room to accommodate a carer.’

When we heard about the build, all the Saymor staff were keen to support Ben and his family. We therefore decided to donate all the beds for the house. For Ben and his partner, we have donated a 5ft divan bed with a pocket sprung memory foam mattress. This should provide good back support. For the two girls, we have donated two single divan beds.

The show will be aired next year and we hope that our beds will help the family sleep safe and sound.

We wish Ben and his family the best of luck for the future.
